Hintergrundinformationen über Suman
Sumans Familie gehört der Volksgruppe der Adhikari an. Das Wort Adhikari stammt von dem Sanskrit-Wort Adhikari अ धि का und bedeutet übersetzt in etwa “Recht auf Herrschaft” oder “Einer, der das Recht hat”. Es ist ein Familienname, der vor allem in Indien aber auch in Nepal vorkommt. In Indien ist der Name Adhikari besonders in den Bundesstaaten Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana und Karnataka verbreitet. In Nepal findet man den Nachnamen insbesondere in den Provinzen Bagmati und Gandaki. Innerhalb des hinduistischen Kastensystems unterscheidet man in Nepal die Zuordnung zu zwei verschiedenen Gruppen, den Bahun bzw. Brahmin Adhikari oder den Kshatriya bzw. Chhetri Adhikari. Traditionell waren Angehörige der Volksgruppe der Brahmin Adhikari Dorfvorsteher und Bauern in Friedenszeiten, wo sie beispielsweise Landstreitigkeiten regelten oder die Finanzen dort verwalteten. Als Chhetri Adhikari waren sie auch spezialisiert in der Kriegsführung und daher häufig militärische Anführer in Kämpfen. Viele Brahmanen wanderten während der islamischen Invasion aus Indien, beispielsweise aus Rajasthan nach Nepal aus. Später gaben ihnen die regionalen Könige und insbesondere der König von Gorkha das Recht, einige Dörfer zu regieren und ernannten sie als lokale Offiziere, wodurch sie sich insbesondere im Westen Nepals ausbreiteten. Später begannen sie, Adhikari anstelle ihres Nachnamens zu benutzen, da er übersetzt “einer, der das Recht hat”. Kshatriya (Chhetri) Adhikari sind die Nachkommen jener Kshatriya, die innerhalb der Adhikhari wie auch die Brahmin Adhikari herrschten, aber als Kshatriya eher militärisch tätig waren als in der Verwaltung.
Suman lebt mit seinen Eltern und seinen drei Geschwistern im Norden Nepals, unweit der Grenze zu Tibet. Bei ihnen lebt ausserdem seine Großmutter Gauri Maya. Die Familie war schon immer sehr arm. Sie haben keine konstante Einkommensquelle und kein eigenes Land, auf dem sie etwas anbauen könnten, entweder im Rahmen der Subsistenzwirtschaft oder zum anschließenden Verkauf. Dies führt dazu, dass selbst das eigene Überleben durch Zugang zu Nahrungsmitteln für die Familie nicht gesichert ist. Beide Eltern haben gesundheitliche Probleme, was in Nepal für Menschen mit einem sehr kleinen Einkommen ein großes oder sogar existenzielles Problem darstellt. Seine Mutter Sita Kumari leidet seit einigen Jahren an einer schweren psychischen Erkrankung, die sie schwer beeinträchtig und die sie mit Medikamenten zu kontrollieren versucht. Es ist aber vor allem auch ein finanzielles Problem, da die Familie die Kosten vollständig selbst tragen muss und dies nicht, vor allem nicht regelmäßig möglich ist. Sein Vater Ramji arbeitet als Hilfsarbeiter meist auf Baustellen in der Region. Er trägt beispielsweise schwere Lasten von einer Stelle zur anderen oder zerhackt Steine am Flussufer, belädt einen Traktor damit und bringt sie dann bergauf oder dorthin, wo sie gebraucht werden. Die Tätigkeiten sind sehr unterschiedlich, da er jeden Job annimmt, den er erhalten kann. Sie sind aber immer körperlich extrem anstrengend und als ungelernte Arbeitskraft ist er sehr schlecht bezahlt. Wenn es für ihn keine oder zu wenig Arbeit gibt, arbeitet er wie Sumans Mutter als Feldarbeiter in der Region. Sie helfen anderen Menschen beim Ackerbau in den Saat- oder Erntezeiten, beispielsweise beim Reisanbau. Oder sie versorgen anderer Menschen Tiere und erhalten ein wenig Geld oder Nahrungsmittel dafür. Zusammen verdienen sie auf diese Weise in guten Monaten etwa 6.000 bis 8.000 Rupien (ca. 50 Euro). Die Corona-Pandemie und der mehr als acht Monate andauernde Lockdown 2020 haben deutliche Spuren hinterlassen. Nun zeichnet sich erneut ein ähnlicher oder gar schlimmerer Verlauf ab, denn mehr als ein Drittel der Bevölkerung in Nepal lebt als Tagelöhner von dem, was sie tagsüber verdienen. Sie haben in den wenigsten Fällen finanzielle Ressourcen und ein soziales Netz existiert nicht. Es geht für viele tatsächlich um ihre Existenz und ihr Überleben. Für ungelernte Arbeitskräfte gibt es praktisch keine Jobs außer der körperlichen Arbeit. Dies ist generell vor allem ein großes Problem der meisten Angehörigen der “untersten Kasten” innerhalb des (eigentlich per Verfassung verbotenen) Kastensystems. Die Gesundheitsversorgung ist in Nepal nicht kostenfrei und ein geregeltes Versicherungssystem gibt es nicht. Wer eine Diagnostik oder Behandlung benötigt muss dafür in den allermeisten Fällen selbst bezahlen. Hinzu kommt, dass die Gesundheitsversorgung nicht flächendeckend vorhanden ist. In den ländlichen Regionen wird sie nur über kleine sogenannte Health Posts aufrecht erhalten. Diese Gesundheitsposten sind in mitunter großen Abständen über die Regionen verteilt und sollen eine medizinische Basisversorgung sicherstellen. In vielen Fällen entspricht das aber nicht der Realität, denn sie sind in der Regel stark unterfinanziert (das durchschnittliche Budget liegt bei ca. 1.000 Euro pro Jahr) und schlecht bis gar nicht ausgestattet. Dies ist einer der Gründe, weshalb beispielsweise die Kinder- und Müttersterblichkeit in diesen Regionen noch immer eine der höchsten der Welt ist. Eine geregelte Versorgung für psychische Erkrankungen existiert ausserhalb von Kathmandu im Prinzip gar nicht.
Für Sumans Schulbesuch fehlt schon jetzt in der Grundschule häufig das Geld. Dinge wie Schulmaterialien oder die Schulgebühr können sein Vater und seine Mutter sich nur gelegentlich leisten, insbesondere da er ja noch Geschwister hat, die ebenfalls in die Schule gehen und das wenige Geld für drei Kinder ausreichen muss. Dasselbe gilt daher für seine beiden Geschwister, die noch in die Schule gehen. Sumans Schwester Krishna besucht ab dem kommenden Schuljahr die 8. Klasse. Sie wird sehr wahrscheinlich spätestens danach, wie ihr älterer Bruder Shiva, die Schule verlassen müssen. Denn je älter die Kinder werden, umso höher werden natürlich die Kosten im Zusammenhang mit der Schule. Auch wenn die Regierung die Vorgabe macht, dass staatliche Schulen kostenlos sein sollen, müssen viele Schulen zusätzliche Unterrichtsfächer anzubieten, um ein annähernd vergleichbares Bildungslevel, wie die privaten Schulen zu erlangen. Hinzu kommt, dass einige Fächer obligat sind für einen Schulabschluss, der äquivalent zur Mittleren Reife bzw. dem Abitur ist. Da allerdings das staatliche Budget der Schulen dafür nicht ausreicht, müssen die Schulen die Kosten über Gebühren für diese Fächer decken. Das führt zu einer zweiten Ebene der Diskriminierung innerhalb des staatlichen Bildungssystems, neben der zwischen privaten und staatlichen Schulen. Kinder wie Suman und seine Geschwister haben unter diesen Bedingungen keine Chance auf einen Schulabschluss und der Druck durch die Armut und den Hunger ist groß, weshalb die Zahl der arbeitenden Kinder in Nepal, trotz des offiziellen Verbots, so hoch ist. Kinder und Jugendliche sind natürlich ungelernte Arbeitskräfte und arbeiten deshalb meist auf den Feldern, auf Baustellen, als Tellerwäscher oder wie Sumans Bruder Shiva als Fahrgeldeinsammler in einem Bus/Mini-Bus. Mädchen verlassen eben vor allem aus finanziellen Gründen früh ihre Familie, um zu heiraten und sie so zu entlasten. Für Jungs aus Nepal, die keinen Schulabschluss und keine weiterführende Bildung haben, ist heutzutage oft die einzige Zukunftsperspektive für sich und ihre Familie, einen Job im Ausland zu finden. Es haben sich viele sogenannte Manpower Companies entwickelt, die junge Nepalesen als kostengünstige Arbeitskräfte in die arabischen Länder wie VAE, Katar, den Oman oder Saudi-Arabien vermitteln, aber auch nach Indien oder Malaysia, wo es neben menschenverachtender Ausbeutung immer wieder auch zu gewalttätigen Übergriffen gegen sie kommt. Die Nepalesen sind ein hart arbeitendes und fleißiges Volk, Zehn- oder fünfzehnstundentage sind völlig normal. Das Problem ist vielmehr, dass die Gehälter für nicht ausgebildete Menschen viel zu niedrig sind, um davon eine Familie ernähren zu können. Es geht für uns bei unserer Arbeit neben der Ausbildung der Kinder entsprechend ihrer individuellen Talente und Fähigkeiten auch darum, zukunftsfähige Qualifikationen zu ermöglichen, damit sie die Möglichkeit erhalten, diese in ihrem Land zur Geltung zu bringen und nicht in einem der oben genannten Länder. Hierzu müssen individuelle und strukturelle Voraussetzungen gleichermaßen gegeben sein.
Koordiniert und kontrolliert wird dies einerseits natürlich durch Sumans Betreuerin vor Ort, Divya Gurung und seinen Betreuer Anil Gurung im täglichen Kontakt mit den Kindern. Darin einbezogen ist ebenfalls die für den Distrikt Lamjung zuständige Mitarbeiterin in unserem Büro in Nepal, Manju Rana Magar. Insbesondere auch das Team unseres Kinderschutz- und Entwicklungsnetzwerks, bestehend aus Mitarbeitern in Deutschland und Nepal, sowie eine Task Force, die die Aufgabe hat sich beispielsweise gesundheitlicher oder schulischer Probleme anzunehmen. Im Rahmen der Entwicklungsprojekte ist unser Projekt-Management Team ebenfalls involviert. Durch diese intensive, individuelle Betreuung und Förderung bewirkt die Patenschaft also weit mehr, als nur die dringend notwendige materielle Unterstützung.

On this month our godparents child Suman received new clothes for Dashain Festival. The great festival of Nepal is Dashain. This festival is Nepali's long and most important festival. On the tenth day known as Tika, people are seen moving around with their foreheads covered with rice Tika, wearing new clothes. There is much feasting as people visit relatives’ homes to receive Tika and blessings.

On the tenth day known as Tika, people are seen moving around with their foreheads covered with rice Tika, wearing new clothes. There is much feasting as people visit relatives’ homes to receive Tika and blessings.
In this month, we provided clothes and groceries items to our godparents children. Because this is the time of great festival named Dashain of all Hindus. in this festival people used to wear new dresses, eat delicious food, play swing and so on.
This month we planned the Dashain special small Program of the great festival of Nepalis peoples and distributed new clothes and some grocery items to the children.

The great harvest festival of Nepal, Dashain is a time for family reunions, exchange of gifts and blessings, and elaborate pujas. Dashain honors the Goddess Durga, who was created out of the shakti or energy of all the gods, armed with weapons from each of them.
In the program, the district team also arranged Tika and Jamara in the program and received blessings from the hands of the respected person.

Due to the great festival of Nepalis Dashain. Our district team Anil Gurung sir and Dibya miss of Lamjung district had planned a small program this month giving priority to the occasion of Dashain. All the children of our Lamjung district and their families were also attend at the program. After a long time all the children and their families came together and the program was a success.

During the monsoon region on the date 2078/03/01, Our Namaste Kids organization provided support to the Dordi Gaunpalika ward 8, Hile Bazaar that has been badly affected due to flood where around 17 houses had been destroyed by providing housing materials like roof (tin).Our office team and district team went to visit the area to observe the situation if our help has been properly used or not. Among them 40% has been used properly and others are kept unused as there is no more land to use as it has already been affected by landslide. Now Government is trying to find a new place to settle the remaining people to safe place and build houses using the materials provided them as help.

As the children school started several months after the lockdown. It was decided to distribute stationery to the children this month in consultation between the office team and the district team. So this month stationery items like copies, pens, bags, shoes polish and umbrellas were distributed.

This month we understood the current situation and distributed hygienic items like Hand Wash, Mask, Dettol, Body Soap, Nail Cutter and Slippers etc to our godparents new child Suman Adhikari as monthly items to keep all the children safe from the corona spread in the country.
On this month our Lamjung godparents children care taker Anil Gurung sir and Dibya Gurung miss they are managing all the necessary things and provide the goods of during the lockdown.

Häufig ist es so, dass beispielsweise eine kleine Grundschule in einem Bergdorf entscheiden muss, ob sie das wenige staatliche Geld für die Bezahlung der Lehrer, für Lehrmaterialien oder für Schuluniformen ausgibt. Alles zusammen ist in den meisten nicht möglich. Deshalb bleibt die Verantwortung Unterrichtsmaterialien und Schuluniformen zu kaufen bei den Eltern, unabhängig davon, ob sie es sich überhaupt leisten können oder nicht
Nepals Bevölkerung besteht aus über 100 verschiedenen Volksgruppen mit eigenen Sprachen und Kulturen. Die durchschnittliche reale Lebenserwartung in diesem Vielvölkerstaat liegt bei unter 70 Jahren.
Das Gesundheitssystem Nepals ist unzulänglich und gerade außerhalb des Kathmandutals in einem katastrophalen Zustand. Stand Mai 2021 kommen 0,7 Ärzte auf 100.000 Menschen und diese arbeiten zu fast 100% in den größeren Städten. Die ländlichen Regionen sind also medizinisch sehr schlecht versorgt.
In den Talflächen konzentrieren sich fast alle Siedlungen der Hochgebirgsregion. Sommersiedlungen mit Weidewirtschaft reichen bis 5000 Meter. Die extrem hohe Reliefenergie und die hohen
Monsunniederschläge (über 5000 Millimeter) an den Südhängen tragen zur Bodenerosion bei und machen Landwirtschaft schwierig.
Die Schulkosten für jedes Kind einer Familie sind sehr häufig nicht leistbar. So senden viele Familien nur das erste Kind zur Schule, für alle anderen fehlt dann das Geld. Sie benötigen unsere Hilfe, denn die Senkung der Analphabeten-Rate ist natürlich wichtig für die Zukunft der Kinder und des Landes.
Für Kinder in Nepal ist es nicht selbstverständlich, zur Schule zu gehen. Millionen Kinder können sich den Schulbesuch ganz einfach nicht leisten. Über die Hälfte der Menschen in Nepal lebt in absoluter Armut, d.h. sie haben nur etwas mehr oder sogar weniger als 1 Dollar pro Tag. Selbst gemessen an der nationalen Armutsgrenze ist der Anteil mit etwa 25% noch immer sehr hoch.

Nepal hat eine Fläche die, gemessen an seinem Grenzverlauf, etwa 40% der Fläche Deutschlands entspricht. Durch das starke Relief ist das Land aber extrem zusammengestaucht. Würde man dieses Relief glatt streichen, wie bei einer Tischdecke, hätte Nepal eine Fläche fast so groß wie Kanada. Daran erkennt man die enorme geographische Herausforderung.

Der transnationale "King Prithivi Highway", der Kathmandu und Pokhara verbindet, verläuft am südlichen Rand des Distrikts und bietet einen einfachen Zugang zum Kathmandutal. Die Straße verläuft parallel zum Fluss Trishuli. Lamjung besteht zu 80% aus Ackerland und zu 20% aus Wald. Die westliche Grenze grenzt an Kaski, die östliche an Gorkha.

Die hier angebotenen Produkte werden in einer kleinen Manufaktur in Pokhara, Nepal hergestellt von Angehörigen, zumeist Frauen, der sozial schwächsten Gesellschaftsschichten. Für die Herstellung wird Pashmina (Kashmirwolle) aus Nepal verwendet. Die Anfertigung erfolgt noch von Hand und ist ein jahrhundertealtes Kunsthandwerk, dessen Erbe in der heutigen Zeit mit Verbreitung der maschinellen Produktion unbedingt erhalten werden sollte.
Durch den Kauf eines dieser Produkte unterstützen Sie zum einen die Frauen, die diese Dinge herstellen, denn sie werden durch uns direkt an dem Verkaufserlös beteiligt. Zum anderen fördern Sie damit unsere Gesundheits- und Bildungsprojekte für Kinder in den entlegenen und schwer zugänglichen Regionen Nepals.

Dibya Gurung ist unsere Mitarbeiterin im Distrikt Lamjung. Zu ihren Aufgaben gehört vor allem die Betreuung der Patenkinder, insbesondere der Mädchen in dieser Region. Da die Besiedlung in Lamjung sehr gering und weitläufig ist und es keine Straßen und Geschäfte gibt, muss sie mehrmals wöchentlich weite Strecken von 1 bis 6 Stunden zu Fuß zurücklegen, um die Patenkinder zu betreuen. Darüber hinaus koordiniert sie gemeinsam mit Betreuer Anil Gurung aus demselben Distrikt unsere Bildungs- und Gesundheitsprojekte dort. Dibya lebt mit ihren Eltern in Khasuribeshi, einem Gaunpalika (Gemeinde) in Lamjung.
Anil lebt selbst in der Region, in der er die Patenkinder betreut. Er arbeitet als junger Lehrer an der regionalen Schule, spricht etwas Englisch und hat einen guten Bildungsstand. Als Mitarbeiter von Namaste Kids betreut er die Patenkinder in einem Umkreis von etwa 8 Stunden Fußmarsch. Er ist ein aussergewöhnlich motivierter, verantwortungsvoller und sehr zuverlässiger Mitarbeiter, was aber natürlich auch notwendig ist für die umfassende und nachhaltige Betreuung, die alle Patenkindern erhalten.
Wie bewerten Sie die Arbeit von Dibya und Anil mit Ihrem Patenkind ?
Unsere Betreuer für die Patenkinder arbeiten alle praktisch ehrenamtlich. Sie haben alle eines gemeinsam: sie sind jung, sozial engagiert und kommen selbst aus armen Verhältnissen. Anil Gurung ist 23 Jahre alt, Dibya Gurung 25 Jahre. Sie arbeiten beide als Lehrer. Pro Patenkind, das sie betreuen erhalten sie 500 Nepalesische Rupees im Monat (ca. 4,30 Euro). Dieses Geld kommt aus einem Spendenpool des Vorstandes und ist gemessen am Arbeitsaufwand sehr wenig. Besonders in den Bergregionen des Himalayas sind die Wege zu den Kindern weit und mühsam. Um die Patenkinder zu sehen sind Dibya und Anil an mehreren Tagen in der Woche jeweils 2 bis 8 Stunden zu Fuß unterwegs, zusätzlich zu ihrer eigentlichen Arbeit als Lehrer an der regionalen Schule. Hinzu kommen besondere Anlässe wie Geburtstage, der Einkauf der benötigten Dinge im Laufe eines Monats oder die noch intensivere Betreuung, wenn ein Patenkind beispielsweise erkrankt ist. Um die Fotos oder Videos der Kinder zu versenden, müssen Anil und Dibya zu einem bestimmten Ort laufen – den nach Süden gerichteten Hang eines Berges. Auch das Entgegennehmen der Post für die Patenkinder, die ihr aus unserem Büro in Pokhara per Bus oder Jeep zugeschickt werden, ist nicht ganz mühelos. Die nächste Busstation in der Region befindet sich in einigen Kilometern Entfernung. Ein Schwerpunkt ihrer Arbeit ist neben dem sozialen Aspekt vor allem auch die emotionale Betreuung der Kinder. Sie müssen daher für die Kinder/die Familien immer erreichbar sein.
Wir haben uns daher überlegt, dass wir das Patenportal auch nutzen wollen, um den Pateneltern die Möglichkeit zu geben, den Betreuern Wertschätzung ihrer Arbeit auszudrücken, in Form einer kleinen, einmaligen finanziellen Unterstützung. Es wäre für sie natürlich eine ganz besondere Anerkennung, ihre Arbeit für die Kinder in dem Wissen zu tun, dass diese von den Pateneltern in Deutschland positiv wahrgenommen wird. Es besteht dabei aber absolut keine Erwartungshaltung, denn sie machen diese Arbeit nicht des Geldes wegen.
