Hintergrundinformationen über Menuka
Menukas Familie gehört der Kaste der Bishwokarma an, einer Handwerkerkaste. Traditionell stellen die Angehörigen dieser Volksgruppe Schmiedewerkzeuge für die Landwirtschaft her. Die Bishwokarma, oder häufig abgekürzt B.K.gehören zu den Dalit, dies sind die “Unberührbaren” im heutigen Nepal. Der Begriff Dalit bezieht sich auf eine Gruppe von Menschen, die religiös, kulturell, sozial, wirtschaftlich und historisch unterdrückt, ausgeschlossen und als unantastbar behandelt werden. Sie leben in unterschiedlichen Regionen, sprechen verschiedene Sprachen und gehören unterschiedlichen Kulturen und Kasten an. Laut der National Dalit Commission (NDC) werden Dalit definiert als „jene Gemeinschaften, die wegen der Diskriminierung und der Unberührbarkeit aufgrund ihrer Kastenzugehörigkeit am rückständigsten in den Bereichen Soziales, Wirtschaft, Bildung, Politik und Religion sind. Die Dalit sind als niedrigere Kaste innerhalb des geschichteten hinduistischen Kastensystem bekannt, welches vor etwa 300 Jahren entstand. Sie sehen sich im täglichen Leben sehr vielen Formen diskriminierender Praktiken gegenüber, in den ländlichen Regionen deutlich stärker als in den Städten. Beispielsweise ist es Dalit nicht gestattet, die Häuser Angehöriger höherer sogenannter “reiner” Kasten zu betreten, ganz gleich wie gut man sich kennt oder vielleicht sogar befreundet ist, auch unabhängig von der Hierarchie untereinander. Dies hat in erster Linie religiöse und spirituelle Gründe, denn diejenigen glauben, dass die religiöse Unreinheit, die damit in ihr Haus gebracht würde, die Götter erzürnen würde. Diese Denkweise ist aber heutzutage fast ausschließlich nur noch bei älteren Menschen anzutreffen. Die jüngeren Generationen entfernen sich immer weiter von dem hierarchischen Kastendenken. Dabei gehören nach der letzten Volkszählung etwa 14% der Gesamtbevölkerung Nepals den Dalit an. Sie umfassen 21 Kasten. Eine von ihnen sind die Bishwokarma.
Menukas Familie war schon immer sehr arm, sie besitzen kein eigenes Land, das sie versorgen könnte und als Angehörige der Dalit sind sie unmittelbar betroffen von dem Kreislauf aus Armut und Bildungslosigkeit. Ihr Vater ist vor ihrer Geburt als Gastarbeiter nach Indien gegangen, um dort etwas mehr Geld verdienen zu können, das er seiner Familie nach Hause schicken kann. Als er dort ankam, sagte man ihm, dass sein Gehalt nur etwa die Hälfte von dem betrage, was ihm vorher zugesagt wurde. Was er dort für die harte Arbeit verdiente reichte kaum für ihn selbst. Kurz nach ihrer Geburt verließ Menukas Mutter die Familie. Ihre beiden Töchter ließ sie bei der Großmutter. Seitdem besteht kein Kontakt mehr zu ihr. Niemand weiß, wo sie sich aufhält und, ob sie noch lebt. Menukas Vater ist inzwischen zurück gekommen nach Nepal, um bei seinen Töchtern zu sein. Er arbeitet als Hilfsarbeiter auf Baustellen oder als Feldarbeiter, wie die Großmutter, um seine Kinder, die Großmutter und sich selbst ernähren zu können. Die Arbeit ist körperlich hart und in der Regel von Sonnenaufgang bis Sonnenuntergang. Das Bezahlung ist mit etwa 100 Rupien pro Tag (ca. 80 Cent) sehr niedrig und wird als Tagelohn ausgezahlt, was bedeutet, wenn es keine Arbeit gibt, dann gibt es auch kein Geld. Unter den aktuellen Lockdown-Verhältnissen hat das natrlich besonders gravierende Auswirkungen auf viele Menschen. Aber auch in normalen Zeiten werden nicht ganzjährig Arbeitskräfte benötigt, was dazu führt, dass die wenigen Rupien zusätzlich auf mehrere Tage aufgeteilt werden müssen. Nicht selten erhalten sie statt Geld auch einfach Nahrungsmittel als Bezahlung, wie beispielsweise Reis oder Bananen. Das wenige Geld, das sie damit verdienen, reicht nicht aus, um regelmäßig und dauerhaft die Kosten für die Schule für Menuka zu bezahlen. Aktuell geht sie noch in die Vorschule und benötigt wenige Dinge. Das wird sich aber natürlich in absehbarer Zeit ändern. Sie benötigt dann Schulmaterialien, wie Hefte, Stifte, Bücher oder Schulkleidung. Auch an anderen Dingen fehlt es schon jetzt, beispielsweise Kleidung oder Geld für eine Medikamente. Das Essen reicht auch an manchen Tagen nicht für alle. Es gibt Zeiten, da gibt es nur eine Mahlzeit am Tag. Wenn es besonders schlecht ist, haben sie nur an zwei von drei Tagen etwas zu essen. Lamjung gehört inzwischen auch zu den stark betroffenen Distrikten, da viele Menschen von dort als kostengünstige Arbeitskräfte vor allem in Indien gearbeitet haben. Sie haben ihre Jobs verloren und sich meist zu Fuß auf den hunderte oder tausende Kilometer langen Weg zurück zu ihren Familien gemacht. Die lange Grenze zwischen Indien und Nepal besteht großteils aus Dschungel und lässt sich nur schwer vollständig abriegeln. Auf diese Weise sind viele, mit dem Virus infizierte Menschen zurück nach Nepal gekommen, auch nach Lamjung. Menukas Schwester Premika hat seit einigen Monaten Pateneltern, da sie schon etwas länger in die Schule geht.
Menuka ist ein aufgewecktes und liebes Mädchen, soweit sich das im jetzigen Alter beurteilen lässt. Aber sie wird wenige Entwicklungschancen haben unter den jetzigen Bedingungen. Dies wird sich ohne die Unterstützung mit Hilfe Ihrer Patenschaft in Zukunft noch weiter verschlechtern und dazu führen, dass sie die Schule vermutlich sehr früh verlässt und wahrscheinlich rasch verheiratet wird, um die Familie zu entlasten und ihre eigene Existenz zu sichern. Auch an Zusatzunterricht in den Ferien oder kostenpflichtigen Schulprogrammen wird Menuka ohne Unterstützung von außen nicht teilnehmen können. Auch wenn die Regierung die Vorgabe gibt, dass staatliche Schulen kostenlos sein sollen, versuchen viele Schulen zusätzliche Unterrichtsfächer anzubieten, um ein annähernd vergleichbares Bildungslevel, wie die privaten Schulen zu erlangen. Da allerdings das staatliche Budget der Schulen dafür nicht ausreicht, müssen die Schulen diese Kosten über Gebühren für diese Fächer decken. Das führt zu einer zweiten Ebene der Diskriminierung innerhalb des staatlichen Bildungssystems, neben der zwischen privaten und staatlichen Schulen. Kinder wie Menuka haben unter diesen Bedingungen keine Chance auf einen Schulabschluss und der Druck durch die Armut und den Hunger ist groß, weshalb die Zahl der arbeitenden Kinder in Nepal, trotz des offiziellen Verbots, so hoch ist. Kinder und Jugendliche sind natürlich ungelernte Arbeitskräfte und arbeiten deshalb meist auf den Feldern, auf Baustellen, als Geldeinsammler in Bussen oder als Tellerwäscher. Mädchen werden vor allem deshalb sehr früh verheiratet. Die Diskriminierung aufgrund der Kaste und der Armut ist aber signifikant stärker ausgeprägt als die, aufgrund des Geschlechtes. Gemeinsam mit den Pateneltern leisten wir einen wirkungsvollen Beitrag, um dies bereits in den Schulen zu verändern. Dafür ist eine der Voraussetzungen, dass Kinder einigermaßen vergleichbare Bedingungen haben und nicht von Beginn an aufgrund ihrer Armut benachteiligt sind und der frühzeitige Schulabbruch vorprogrammiert ist.
Liebe Frau Steenbock, Ihre Unterstützung durch die Patenschaft wird das Leben von Menuka erheblich verändern. Sie wird zukünftig, wie ihre Schwester Premika, regelmäßig die Schule besuchen können und ausreichend zu essen haben. Darüber hinaus erhält sie eine Krankenversicherung, die Untersuchungen und Behandlungen (inkl. Medikamente) abdeckt, sowie eine intensive und vor allem individuelle Betreuung innerhalb ihres eigenen Umfeldes. Die Betreuung der Kinder und Familien hat eine sehr große Bedeutung. Es genügt unserer Auffassung nach nicht alleine die materiellen Voraussetzungen für eine gesunde Entwicklung oder für den Schulbesuch zu schaffen. Wenn mit Hilfe einer Patenschaft die Entwicklung wirksam und wirklich nachhaltig gefördert werden soll, sollte die Patenschaft in ein gesamtheitliches Konzept eingebettet sein. Unser Kinderschutz- und Entwicklungsnetzwerk, in dem das Kind im Zentrum steht, bezieht das direkte und erweiterte Umfeld in den Entwicklungsprozess mit ein. Dabei geht es um den Schutz des Kindes vor Gewalt, Missbrauch und Ausbeutung einerseits. Ebenso um die Schaffung sozialer und ökonomischer Entwicklungschancen für das Kind und dessen direktes Umfeld. Dadurch werden auch Abhängigkeiten beispielsweise durch eine Patenschaft auf ein Minimum reduziert. Darin einbezogen sein sollte aber auch das erweiterte Umfeld, also die Community in der Menuka lebt, beispielsweise die Dorfgemeinschaft.
Hinsichtlich des Kinderschutzes geht es vor allem um Aufklärung, Prävention und Observation, den Schutz vor körperlicher und emotionaler Misshandlung, um eine gewaltlose Erziehung zuhause und in den Schulen, den Zugang zu Bildung und Gesundheitsversorgung ohne Diskriminierung aufgrund von Armut oder der ethnischen Zugehörigkeit, um nur einige Beispiele zu nennen. Die Schulung und Fortbildung aller unserer Mitarbeiter vor Ort in Nepal aber auch in Deutschland ist eine grundlegende Voraussetzung. Ebenso die Aufklärung der Menschen im Umfeld der Kinder. In erster Linie der Eltern, aber auch der Lehrer, Dorfbewohner und Regierungsvertreter. Notwendig sind auch festgelegte Strategien zur Überwachung, Mitteilung, Evaluation und Intervention, in Anpassung an den kulturellen Rahmen und die individuellen Gegebenheiten vor Ort.
Wichtig ist im Allgemeinen, dass auch die Familien der Kinder die Notwendigkeit und die Chancen dieser Regeln verstehen und uns bei der Umsetzung unterstützen. Mit der Entwicklung unseres eigenen, zugegebenermaßen sehr umfangreichen Kinderschutzkonzepts für alle Patenkinder in Nepal, hat sich bei vielen Kindern schulische Entwicklung bereits deutlich verbessert. Die meisten der Patenkinder haben gute oder sogar sehr gute Schulnoten. Auch in der sozialen, emotionalen und physischen Entwicklung macht sich dies signifikant bemerkbar. Durch den fast täglichen persönlichen Kontakt zu den Patenkindern und den Familien, können wir bei Problemen rasch helfen und die Entwicklung positiv beeinflussen. Durch die intensive Betreuung nicht nur vor Ort, sondern durch unser gesamtes Team, bewirkt die Patenschaft also wesentlich mehr, als ausschließlich die dringend notwendige materielle Unterstützung.

On the tenth day known as Tika, people are seen moving around with their foreheads covered with rice Tika, wearing new clothes. All the children of our Lamjung district and their families were also attend at the program. After a long time all the children and their families came together and the program was a success.

This month Amrita, Uma and their family receive Rice, Oil, Salt, Dhaal and Soyabean and other grocery items as per their requirement and in overall we provide clothes soap to them..
This month office team Manju miss and district team Anil sir and Dibya miss called the children and their families and asked them about the items they needed for this month. We distributed groceries items as per the information and requirements.

Due to the corona pandemic, many people in Lamjung district also tested positive for corona. The district hospital in Lamjung did not have enough health supplies to provide corona infection. So our organization handover the necessary medical supplies to the district hospital.

Man benötigt nicht sehr viel Phantasie, um sich vorzustellen, dass jede Fahrt auf dieser Straße mit einem hohen Risiko einhergeht. In den Monaten der Regenzeit ist es noch schlimmer.
Besisahar, die Distrikthauptstadt von Lamjung und Ausgangspunkt, um in die Bergregionen Lamjungs zu gelangen. Es ist mit etwa 40.000 Einwohnern auch die einzige richtige Stadt innerhalb des Distriktes.

Die hier angebotenen Produkte werden in einer kleinen Manufaktur in Pokhara, Nepal hergestellt von Angehörigen, zumeist Frauen, der sozial schwächsten Gesellschaftsschichten. Für die Herstellung wird Pashmina (Kashmirwolle) aus Nepal verwendet. Die Anfertigung erfolgt noch von Hand und ist ein jahrhundertealtes Kunsthandwerk, dessen Erbe in der heutigen Zeit mit Verbreitung der maschinellen Produktion unbedingt erhalten werden sollte.
Durch den Kauf eines dieser Produkte unterstützen Sie zum einen die Frauen, die diese Dinge herstellen, denn sie werden durch uns direkt an dem Verkaufserlös beteiligt. Hier möchten wir Ihnen einige Informationen zum Tihar-Festival geben:
Tihar (Nepali: तिहार), auch bekannt als Deepawali, ist ein fünf Tage andauerndes Hindu-Festival, das auf dem indischen Subkontinent, insbesondere in Nepal und den indischen Bundesstaaten Assam und Sikkim, einschließlich des Distrikts Darjeeling in Westbengalen, gefeiert wird. Es ist das Fest der Lichter, denn Teelichter (Diyas) werden innerhalb und außerhalb der Häuser angezündet, damit es auch nachts beleuchtet ist. Es ist allgemein bekannt als Swanti unter den Newars und als Deepawali unter den Madhesis. Das Fest beginnt im nepalesischen Kalender (Vikram Samvat) in der zweiten Hälfte des Monats Kartik mit Kaag Tihar am Trayodashi (dem 13. lunaren Tag nach dem Vollmond) im abnehmenden, dunklen Zyklus (= Krishna Paksha). Es endet jedes Jahr mit Bhai Tika an Dwitiya, dem 2. Tag des zunehmenden, hellen Zyklus des Vollmondes (= Sukhla Paksha).
Tihar ist nach Dashain das zweitgrößte nepalesische Festival. Es wird als von großer Bedeutung angesehen, da es nicht nur für Menschen und Götter, sondern auch für Tiere wie Krähen, Kühe und Hunde, die eine enge Beziehung zu Menschen pflegen, einen Beitrag leistet. Menschen zeichnen Muster auf dem Boden von Wohnräumen oder Innenhöfen mit Materialien wie Farbpulver, farbigem Reis, trockenem Mehl, farbigem Sand oder Blütenblättern. Diese Stellen werden auch Rangoli genannt und sollen vor allem für die Götter und Göttinnen des Hinduismus (vor allem Laxmi) ein heiliger Ort sein.
Krähen und Raben werden mit Süßigkeiten und Speisen auf den Dächern der Häuser verehrt. Das Krächzen der Krähen und Raben symbolisiert Traurigkeit und Trauer im Hinduismus. Daher bieten die Menschen den Krähen und Raben Nahrung an, um Trauer und Tod von ihren Häusern abzuwenden. Tihar steht vor allem für die göttliche Verbindung zwischen Menschen und Tieren.
Eine weitere interessante Beobachtung während der Tihar-Tage in Nepal ist das Glücksspiel: Während der Festivaltage darf man spielen, während es im Rest des Jahres für nepalesische Bürger das Spielen verboten.
Dibya Gurung ist unsere Mitarbeiterin im Distrikt Lamjung. Zu ihren Aufgaben gehört vor allem die Betreuung der Patenkinder, insbesondere der Mädchen in dieser Region. Da die Besiedlung in Lamjung sehr gering und weitläufig ist und es keine Straßen und Geschäfte gibt, muss sie mehrmals wöchentlich weite Strecken von 1 bis 6 Stunden zu Fuß zurücklegen, um die Patenkinder zu betreuen. Darüber hinaus koordiniert sie gemeinsam mit Betreuer Anil Gurung aus demselben Distrikt unsere Bildungs- und Gesundheitsprojekte dort. Dibya lebt mit ihren Eltern in Khasuribeshi, einem Gaunpalika (Gemeinde) in Lamjung.
Anil lebt selbst in der Region, in der er die Patenkinder betreut. Er arbeitet als junger Lehrer an der regionalen Schule, spricht etwas Englisch und hat einen guten Bildungsstand. Als Mitarbeiter von Namaste Kids betreut er die Patenkinder in einem Umkreis von etwa 8 Stunden Fußmarsch. Er ist ein aussergewöhnlich motivierter, verantwortungsvoller und sehr zuverlässiger Mitarbeiter, was aber natürlich auch notwendig ist für die umfassende und nachhaltige Betreuung, die alle Patenkindern erhalten.
Wie bewerten Sie die Arbeit von Dibya und Anil mit Ihrem Patenkind ?
Unsere Betreuer für die Patenkinder arbeiten alle praktisch ehrenamtlich. Sie haben alle eines gemeinsam: sie sind jung, sozial engagiert und kommen selbst aus armen Verhältnissen. Anil Gurung ist 23 Jahre alt, Dibya Gurung 25 Jahre. Sie arbeiten beide als Lehrer. Pro Patenkind, das sie betreuen erhalten sie 500 Nepalesische Rupees im Monat (ca. 4,30 Euro). Dieses Geld kommt aus einem Spendenpool des Vorstandes und ist gemessen am Arbeitsaufwand sehr wenig. Besonders in den Bergregionen des Himalayas sind die Wege zu den Kindern weit und mühsam. Um die Patenkinder zu sehen sind Dibya und Anil an mehreren Tagen in der Woche jeweils 2 bis 8 Stunden zu Fuß unterwegs, zusätzlich zu ihrer eigentlichen Arbeit als Lehrer an der regionalen Schule. Hinzu kommen besondere Anlässe wie Geburtstage, der Einkauf der benötigten Dinge im Laufe eines Monats oder die noch intensivere Betreuung, wenn ein Patenkind beispielsweise erkrankt ist. Um die Fotos oder Videos der Kinder zu versenden, müssen Anil und Dibya zu einem bestimmten Ort laufen – den nach Süden gerichteten Hang eines Berges. Auch das Entgegennehmen der Post für die Patenkinder, die ihr aus unserem Büro in Pokhara per Bus oder Jeep zugeschickt werden, ist nicht ganz mühelos. Die nächste Busstation in der Region befindet sich in einigen Kilometern Entfernung. Ein Schwerpunkt ihrer Arbeit ist neben dem sozialen Aspekt vor allem auch die emotionale Betreuung der Kinder. Sie müssen daher für die Kinder/die Familien immer erreichbar sein.
Wir haben uns daher überlegt, dass wir das Patenportal auch nutzen wollen, um den Pateneltern die Möglichkeit zu geben, den Betreuern Wertschätzung ihrer Arbeit auszudrücken, in Form einer kleinen, einmaligen finanziellen Unterstützung. Es wäre für sie natürlich eine ganz besondere Anerkennung, ihre Arbeit für die Kinder in dem Wissen zu tun, dass diese von den Pateneltern in Deutschland positiv wahrgenommen wird. Es besteht dabei aber absolut keine Erwartungshaltung, denn sie machen diese Arbeit nicht des Geldes wegen.
